What to Expect
The new 2020 Ram 1500 is a full-size pickup truck that now features a 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6 option with improvements that generate more power and torque so you can support higher tow ratings. This engine is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission, and the result is 260 horsepower and class-leading 480 pound to feet of torque. From previous years torque has improved by 14 percent, and it occurs at 400 rpm lower in the rev range.
These changes have led to a big increase in the EcoDiesel's maximum tow rating. The new 2020 engine can haul up to 12,560 pounds, the highest diesel tow rating in its class! When the Ram 1500 is equipped with the available 5.7-liter V8, you can get that capability even higher and haul 12,750 pounds! The overall difference comes down to the extra weight of the diesel engine, its intercoolers, exhaust after-treatment system, and the diesel exhaust fluid tank.
Multifunction Tailgate
The 2020 Ram 1500 features a redesigned tailgate that offers you more versatility when it matters most. The tailgate is made with a 60/40 split that lets you open up two doors for easy accessibility. The doors open 88 degrees, making it easier to step up, load up bigger items, unload, and wash out your bed. You can have the left door open, both open, tailgate down, or fully closed. The bed holds up to 2,000 pounds! You can also add an available Ram 1500 Bed Step that deploys down form under the rear bumper to give you a solid foothold.
